Hammertoes
A hammertoe is a contracture of the smaller toes which is progressive in nature and is frequently seen with other foot deformities. This can include bunions, high or low arched feet.
In earlier stages, hammertoes are flexible, but as the deformity progresses, it becomes more rigid and more difficult to treat conservatively.
Surgery is recommended when pain is not alleviated by conservative treatment options, difficulty finding shoes that fit, painful corns and ulcers that develop on the toe.
