Capsulitis
This is an inflammation of the lining of a joint. It most frequently occurs at the 2nd metatarsophalangeal joint and what is commonly encountered is something called a plantar plate tear. Conservative treatment includes activity modification/cross-training, RICE protocol physical therapy, and more. Surgical management involves repair of the torn plantar plate, if such a tear exists.
